A new concept for Aberdeen Beach Park envisions one of the most imaginative and inclusive play environments in Scotland. The Play Factory, developed by MONSTRUM, merges storytelling, sustainability, and sensory-rich experiences into a remarkable playscape.

🧭 A Journey Through Play

The playground is designed as an interactive journey through four themed environments:

• 🛶 The Fishing Village – Inspired by the historic village of Footdee, featuring shops, bridges, and charming street details.
• 🌲 The Woodlands – Home to native flora, fauna, and tree-based play features such as tunnels, platforms, and sound elements.
• 🚀 The Sky Tower – A vertical adventure with sound and light, where children ascend towards a panoramic viewing platform.
• 🏞 The Glens – A physically engaging space designed for older children, reflecting the rolling hills and natural beauty of Aberdeenshire.

🌈 Inclusive and Stimulating Design

This concept is not only visually striking but functionally inclusive:

• Sensory features such as musical instruments, tactile surfaces, and visual stimulation
• Transparent structures offering visibility for children with cognitive impairments
• Multi-level challenges catering to varied abilities and risk tolerance

🌍 Built with Purpose

Sustainability lies at the heart of the design:

• FSC-certified timber including Robinia, Tali, and Accoya wood
• Water-based eco-friendly paint with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel
• Durable materials ensuring long-term safety and reduced environmental impact

🏗 Inspired by Heritage, Built for the Future

The concept draws inspiration from Aberdeen’s rope-making history and transforms it into a play narrative, weaving local stories and wildlife into every curve of the structure.

MONSTRUM, the award-winning Danish playground designers, previously delivered the acclaimed Lilidorei structure at The Alnwick Garden – an internationally recognised benchmark for imaginative play.
